Sean Henry has announced that his new album, A Jump From The High Dive will be released on November 1 via Double Double Whammy Records. Lifted from that new collection, and ahead of a couple of dates in New York and New Haven, (then a lengthier tour) the artist has shared a new track; ‘Rain Rain’.
Following Sean Henry’s (real name Sean Posila) debut album, Fink, ‘Rain Rain’ teases a subtle shift in trajectory from the grungy, grittier elements. Here Henry leans into a marginally cleaner tone. The melody sounds almost like a solo-career George Harrison riff; an easy but surprising progression, a shinier high end, and a fondness for a minor drop. Henry’s guitar sounds like rain feels. It’s cooling.
Lyrically, the artists calls upon the heavens to shower down on him. “Rain, rain, come to me, come to me today.” He addresses the environment and his desire to move through the world, “Country road, let’s see how fast we can go” and like a solo George Harrison release the timbre here is simultaneously sad, up-lifting. It carries with it’s simplicity a dark and knowing intelligence.
The last couple of bars, where a music-box oddness falls over the guitars and keys is gentle, psychedelic and strong. Great stuff.
