Diplo’s Creek – Return Of The Beek

It’s not as if James Van Der Beek has been bereft of work over the last few years, after all he played this same role as Diplo in a promotion for the Mad Decent Block Party tour just last year, not to mention a ‘memorable’ recurring role in CSI: Cyber, but not sense his days as Johnny Mox in Varsity Blues, Sean Bateman (younger brother of Patrick Bateman) in Rules of Attraction, or as Dawson’s Creek title character that a role has so fit his over-fragile machismo.

We’re about as excited for Day in the Life of Diplo as we are for the entire set of Viceland’s somehow overly pop esoteric overall programming. But with Spike Jonze onboard as Viceland’s co-president, there may be something more lying under the easily fluttered iced feathers of Diplo – who somehow wooed M.I.A. back in the day.

Day in the Life of Diplo written by Bret Easton Ellis does have a certain 90s ring to it that in the hands of Spike Jonze may readily comment on our currently confusing times in a way that is subtle yet obtuse enough to make Viceland’s crying-to-be-called-cool audience salivate. But with The Beek at the helm as showrunner, the chances don’t seem strong. Hopefully by late 2017 we are all able to laugh at both, but the question is in what way when everyone involved is taking home major paychecks, except the audience.
